Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Collaboration
IFECMH Knowledge AreaProfessionals from various disciplines play a huge role in the development of a child. Some of these disciplines include: speech language pathology, occupational therapy, and education. The IFECMH endorsement indicates that a professional possesses the needed skills to collaborate within their field of practice and between the various fields that impact children. This collaboration ensures that professionals from varying disciplines are equipped with a certain amount of knowledge in infant and child development to better serve the child, family and community.
Some of the competencies that must be achieved include:
- Coordinates early intervention services across a variety of agencies.
- Respects and incorporates information and feedback from other team members.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the limits of one’s own discipline’s scope of practice and the need for referral for issues beyond one’s own discipline’s expertise.
