All Infant-Family and Early Childhood Mental Health professionals are:

  • Family-centered, developmentally informed & culturally responsive

  • Transdisciplinary: Work together with team members to pool and integrate the team’s expertise to provide a common set of intervention goals for the child and their family

  • Promoting mental health, preventing mental health challenges and/or treating mental illness

  • Trained and experienced in the following key knowledge areas:

This document provides a framework that outlines a coherent foundation of the knowledge and skills necessary to work with very young children and their families with a focus on early relationships and early mental health.  The competencies provide information regarding becoming endorsed in California as an Infant-Family and Early Childhood Mental Health provider.
