Diagnosis and Intervention
IFECMH Knowledge AreaThe diagnosis and intervention process can be very stressful for the family and the child. A professional who is endorsed by IFECMH is able to support the family through this process by interpreting the language of the diagnosis or by identifying community resources.
Some of the competencies that must be achieved include:
- Demonstrates knowledge of the distinctions among difference, delay, and disorder and appropriate referral for each.
- Ensures that families are primary members of the individualized family service plan/individualized education program team.
- Provides resources for related services such as primary care, child welfare, mental health, or social services and provides guidance regarding child’s development.
